2013 Summer Teams
We sent UK volunteers to villages in North-West Romania this year, working with new churches and those with a passion to grow their children’s ministry. Please check out our facebook page for photographs from this year.
We have many inspiring testimonies from this year. The church leaders we encountered were all looking ahead in faith and planning for church growth. Working hard to grow their children’s ministry, build or expand church buildings and reach out in partnership to other denominations and community leaders so that that Gospel can be heard.
Check out our “Testimonies” and “Volunteer Opportunities” pages for details of these stories and the projects that are being planned.
In Tinca, Bihor county, we worked in its Gypsy community with over 130 children each day. Families Struggle to get regular work and the so their living standard is very poor. Many houses that we saw were small and gave little protection from the extremes of the Romanian climate, which often reaches minus 30 degrees Celsius in the winter. Many homes in the community have no sanitation.
The children enjoyed a lively programme, learning about God and his place both in the world and in their lives.
Craft activities were a great success, aided by our teenage helpers from the community. Work is in progress to establish regular children and youth meetings through the year and youth leader training by our team in Petrosani.
In Pricaz, Hunedoara county we worked with church leader Gabi Mihelescu, who has a big heart for the community he serves and has made a big impact in the village in the four years he has been ministering there. We saw 63 children through the week and were inspired as we worked with him and with local volunteers who all showed their passion for mission.
We were especially touched when were invited into the family homes of some of the children and saw their joy even though they had little, by modern standards, to be joyful about.
Pojoga, Hunedoara county, is a quite little village with a rural economy, miles from the nearest supermarket. This was our second year running a holiday club with these children. Our first visit came out of an invitation last year from Ion and Iulie, an elderly couple who host the village’s tiny Baptist congregation in their front room. This is a Mission Church for Pastor Sergiu Bradean who is Pastor of Dobra and Mihaiesti and who is working hard to plant new churches in the area.
The volunteers were blessed by the warm response from the children at Pojoga and during the week God brought forward several people who have now committed to establish regular children & youth meetings and to disciple those who made a personal commitment of faith during the holiday club.
